Forest health outreach education is a major part of the Extension effort in Summit County. Extension partners with many local organizations to support forest health education in Summit County. Some cooperative efforts include Forestry in the Field, Ski With a Ranger, Safe Summer Kickoff, fire department open houses, community presentations, Summit Daily press releases and articles, as well as radio public service announcements, to name a few.
2012 Forestry in the Field Hikes
Join Colorado State University Extension in Summit County and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District to explore the dynamic forests of Summit County. This workshop series takes place at different trailhead locations throughout Summit County, offering participants guided hikes focused on current forest issues. Topics for exploration include tree ID, historic perspectives, stakeholder interest, the wildland urban interface, and community wildland fire issues.

Extension also administers the Summit County Wildfire Council, which is comprised of representatives from the United States Forest Service, Colorado State Forest Service, each of the three fire protection districts, each of the towns, and one citizen representative from each of the four river basins.
