Summit County Assessor

20 years in the mortgage industry brought me to the Assessor's office four years ago; include with that a huge respect for Summit County and the beautiful place that has been created here. My experience over those 20 years in the mortgage industry spanned new business development through multi state leadership in both wholesale and retail mortgage lending companies. I experienced great success when a great team and I grew the business of a small retail mortgage office 350% in both volume and profit in three years. This was done by building a team from just 5 people to over 65 that were all committed to the same goal. When our loan volume grew exponentially, I served as a mortgage loan underwriter evaluating risk. An understanding of the appraisal report supporting each mortgage was vital in those decisions.

The Assessor's office accomplishments are striking. Every two years we value over 34,000 property parcels of all types; residences, commercial property, vacant land, ski area land and equipment, hotels and motels, mining claims, mobile home parks and other miscellaneous parcels. We have a knowledgeable and committed team and we are all dedicated to fairness and doing the best and most professional job for all taxpayers. And, if you have been by to see us, you know how courteous we are. Some taxpayers have even said we are fun!

We have stood up for our values in many appeal cases where we knew we had established the fairest and most equitable valuation. To have given in would have cost the taxing entities and the taxpayers of Summit County too much. Over the last four years we have made ourselves more efficient; resulting in a significant reduction in our operational costs.

In 2008, I worked with Representative Scanlan to achieve legislation that made identifying certain types of property more efficient with the result of increasing fairness for all taxpayers. I am now serving as a Colorado representative to the IAAO (International Association of Assessment Officers). I hold a Colorado Real Estate Appraisers license. My BA degree is from American University in Washington DC with a major in Sociology. I have one son who grew up in Colorado and graduated CU and now lives in Florida, and like so many who have moved away, he can't wait to come back.
