Summit County, Frisco, Breckenridge and Silverthorne are gathering public input on the needs for and feasibility of an indoor community sports complex

SUMMIT COUNTY – The Towns of Breckenridge, Frisco and Silverthorne and Summit County are collaborating on a study to assess the need for and feasibility of a new indoor community sports complex in Summit County. The partnership is seeking community input via an online survey through Nov. 15, 2018.
Summit County's high-altitude climate is ideal for alpine sports and recreation, but our long winters can pose challenges for other athletic activities. During the fall, winter and spring seasons, many youth and adult sports practices, games and tournaments are canceled or rescheduled because of inclement weather.
A group of Summit County community members has raised the idea of an indoor sports complex, or "fieldhouse," to provide greater certainty and opportunity for local training and competition for athletes of all ages. As currently envisioned, a fieldhouse would include amenities that complement the offerings of the existing recreation centers and other recreational facilities in the community, including indoor spaces for training for sports of all types and athletes of all ages. The complex could also house community meeting rooms, shared co-op working spaces and indoor gathering areas.
The fieldhouse community survey is the first component of the needs assessment process. All Summit County residents are encouraged to participate in the survey, which takes about five minutes to complete. The survey can be found at www.bit.ly/summco18 and will be open through Nov. 15, 2018.
