SUMMIT COUNTY – The Colorado Commission on Affordable Health Care is coming to Summit County on Friday, June 17, to gather input and feedback about the rising costs of health care. The commission will hold a free public meeting from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Summit County Community and Senior Center, 83 Nancy’s Pl., Frisco.
The Commission is working to study the problem of rising health care costs – for families, businesses and policymakers alike – and propose collaborative solutions to address the problem. To do so, the commission is seeking Coloradans’ perspectives and ideas through a series of meetings throughout the state during May and June.
“The rising costs of health care are bringing members of our community to the financial brink, and we need to start getting a better handle on this issue,” Summit County Commissioner Dan Gibbs said. “The commission really needs to hear from Summit County residents and understand their struggles as it studies this problem and seeks solutions.”
Created through bipartisan legislation (SB 14-187) sponsored by Sens. Irene Aguilar and Ellen Roberts, the commission’s three-year mission is to analyze health care costs and make policy recommendations to the Colorado Legislature and the governor for lowering health care costs in the state. The commission is expected to complete its work and submit a report to the Colorado General Assembly and Governor’s Office in late 2017.
The commission consists of 12 voting members, representing various public and private sector health care experts, and five non-voting members from state government.
The commission has requested that anyone who plans to attend the public meetings RSVP in advance at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cocostcommissionmtg. Refreshments will be served at Friday’s meeting in Frisco.
